Italy Poste Italiane revenue up 6.5 pct Y/Y H1 2005

Italy’s state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane ended the first half of 2005 with a consolidated revenue of 4.8 bln euro ($5.737 bln), up 6.5 pct year-on-year, the company said on October 3, 2005.

Consolidated operating profit stood at 412 mln euro ($492.5 mln) and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 18.3 pct.

The company’s investments amounted to over 200 mln euro ($239.1 mln).

Poste Italiane expects to post a turnover of 9.0 bln euro ($10.758 bln) for 2005.

Operating profit of the parent company Poste Italiane SpA totalled 385 mln euro ($460.2 mln) and EBITDA went up 16.8 pct.

Italian bank Bancoposta, a unit of Poste Italiane, reported a 12 pct increase in revenue. The number of the bank’s current accounts increased 5.3 pct in June 2005, compared to December 2004, and stood at 4.4 million.
