Australia’s first postmaster – convicted thief Isaac Nichols – was appointed on 25 April 1809, and worked from his home in Sydney.
Starting Australia’s first post office at his Circular Quay residence, Nichols went on to establish what we know today as Australia Post.
But it wasn’t until 1841 that Victoria appointed its first postman.
