Earth Class Mail Corporation (ECM) announced that Sarah G. Carr, the company’s chief operating officer, has been promoted to president.

Founding President and CEO Ron Wiener will become chairman of the board and will focus on advancing the company’s strategy with national posts and other major initiatives.

Carr has been COO at the company since October, 2008. She has more than 20 years of executive experience as a general manager with Print Inc. and Bowne Global Solutions, SVP Operations at Thomson Financial and VP Strategy and Business Development at the Thomson Corporation.

“Earth Class Mail is one of those very big ideas that, five years ago, took a rather extraordinary leap of faith to envision working at the level of a national postal operator,” said outgoing chairman Chris Kwak. “The recent licensing of the ECM Internet-powered postal-mail delivery platform to Swiss Post allows us to parlay this into more partnerships with leading innovators in the postal industry.” Kwak, a partner with Cato Partners investment fund in New York City, has been involved with the company since its formation five years ago; he is stepping down from the board but remains a significant shareholder.

“We believe Sarah’s skills and experience will allow ECM not only to grow its customer base, but also to hone operational excellence,” said Jonathan Roberts, a partner at Bellevue, Wash.-based venture-capital firm Ignition Partners and a director of ECM. “We also want to thank Ron for his leadership as CEO getting the company to this stage, and we look forward to his further contributions as chairman of the Board.”
