Swiss Post to cut 100 jobs

Swiss Post will cut 100 positions from its express and courier centres in numerous cities across the country by the end of the year. Post office spokesman Oliver Flüeler told two Zurich-based newspapers published on Sunday that the cuts follow a 15% drop in turnover against last year.

There are 260 people currently employed across the two divisions in Zurich, Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Winterthur, Olten and Aarau.

Post officials said they had devised a social plan that includes helping those laid off find other work, offering an early retirement package and making contributions toward relocation costs.

Workers have known about impending layoffs since October 2009.
