GLS struggles with weather

European parcel operator GLS has indicated there will be delays to its service due to heavy snowfall. Service providers such as GLS have struggled with the chaotic traffic situation.

Badly affected areas of the GLS network include operations in Germany, Ireland, southern France, northern Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

“Our production processes are highly industrialised and hauls perfectly matched,” said Rico Back, CEO of GLS. “There is weather-related congestion, partly highway closures and impassable roads. Many packages do not come in time for the assortments in the hubs or can not be forwarded. At some sites we have space problems.”

GLS said its vehicles have been equipped with winter tyres. In Eastern Europe, where temperatures will drop further, the company will provide the drivers with winter diesel.
