Lufthansa Cargo levies surcharge

Lufthansa Cargo is to impose a security surcharge of 0.15 euro per kilo security surcharge, beginning on 8 October. (10/2/2001)

The move is in response to the terrorist attacks in the US, which has led to an increase in war risk insurance premiums for cargo carriers operating in the Gulf region.

The extra premiums have made it very difficult for cargo airlines to operate profitably, leading the airlines to pass the cost on to their customers.
