PIN AG plays David to Deutsche Post's Goliath

PIN AG, the German private delivery company, has for around two years delivered mail and packages at lower prices than former monopolist Deutsche Post AG. At present, its services are available only in the Berlin, Potsdam and Leipzig areas. Following postal sector deregulation, it has the necessary licence from the post and telecommunications regulatory body, on condition that it offer a higher-quality service than Deutsche Post.

One advantage of the PIN delivery service is that the company collects post from customers daily, beginning at 5.00 p.m. and carries out first deliveries by 12.00 p.m. the following working day. It currently counts around 250 customers, with its focus on large-scale senders such as state institutions, businesses and trade unions, but now also aims to attract private customers. In the medium term, it also plans to extend its services to other heavily-populated areas.
