USPS use Belgian technology to eliminate anthrax

Belgian particle beam accelerator maker Ion Beam Applications has signed a contract with the USPS to sterilise mail in a bid to try and eliminate anthrax from the countrys mail system.
IBA, whose machines usually sterilise food and medical instruments said in a statement it would start handling mail in high volumes using is electron beam and x-ray technology at its New Jersey facility.
The firm estimates the indefinite contract would generate revenues of about US$2.4 million a quarter. When IBA revealed it had received requests about its machines capable of zapping anthrax spores it caused its volatile stocks to shoot up 25.74 per cent to close at Euro19.
