Treasure Truck hunt

Amazon’s much-hyped Treasure Truck was scheduled to hit the streets of Seattle last weekend, “cruising to different neighborhoods loaded to the gills with one amazing item you won’t want to miss”, but its launch seems to have been mysteriously parked. The plans was for the truck to start delivering to the people of Seattle on Saturday morning (27 June). Consumers were advised that – once the service was underway – they could purchase from the Treasure Truck by using the Amazon mobile shopping app, clicking the “Buy Now” button and choosing a convenient location and time slot.

On the Treasure Truck webpage, Amazon advised: “Our featured products can be purchased only using the Amazon Mobile Shopping app on iOS, Android, and Fire Phone. You cannot place an order over the phone or the PC website, and we do not ship Treasure Truck products—to get your purchase, you come meet the Truck!

The  first “amazing”, unmissable item that Amazon planned to start delivering on the truck was a limited number of Solstice stand-up paddleboard sets for $99 (normal retail price $476.99).

Amazon set up a Twitter account for the Treasure Truck and in the run-up to the big launch it posted pictures of the truck being spruced up at a local car wash. However, on the big day, Amazon tweeted that “TreasureTruck has moved its first offer to a later date. Thanks for following us and stay tuned! ” It followed this up with an apology and an assurance that it was “working hard to bring you treasure soon”. And then silence.
