UPS executive says drone delivery still some way off
Myron Gray, president of U.S. operations for UPS, has advised that drones are not yet ready to take the parcel delivery industry by storm. Speaking at a business event at the World Trade Center of New Orleans last week, Gray said: “I think it will be quite some time before the Federal Aviation Administration allows drones on any scale.”
Gray added that UPS has started to run its own trials on drone delivery, but it found that the main problem is that drones – as currently manufactured – cannot cope with the “density”, or volume, of deliveries required.
“You need density and scale to make money in transportation,” said Gray.
