Hanoi Post Office launches ISDN internet service
The Post Office in Vietnam on May 15 officially offered a service called 1267-ISDN that allows users to access the Internet via the Integrated Services Digital Network with high data transmission speeds.
The service also enables the use of hi-tech equipment such as video phones, faxes and personal computers.
Emirates Satellite Post Offices launched
Emirates Post has launched a single counter postal service – manned by one person – in crowded districts to meet growing demands, said Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post.
Speaking to Gulf News, Daboos said the service has been initiated as part of efforts by Emirates Post to provide greater convenience to the public.
“The service is known as Satellite Post Offices comprising just one counter. They are established in market places where space is limited, in order to have a full-fledged post office.
Cathay Pacific 'Cautiously optimistic' on outlook
Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd chairman James Hughes-Hallett said he remains “cautiously optimistic” about the carrier’s prospects over the longer term.
“I think it is already a proven fact that the bottom has been reached and that we are coming out of the bottom,” Hughes-Hallett told reporters after the company’s AGM, highlighting recent passenger and cargo load improvements.
“But I think the question we all have to ask, whether it is in Cathay Pacific or in Hong Kong economy as a whole, is whether those cargo loads simply represent a one off restocking exercise, particularly in the US, or whether they represent a genuine longer term recovery in the US,” Hughes-Hallett said.
Rural Post Office network `Close to collapse'
The Liberal Democrats today demanded clarification of the Government’s sub-post office strategy amid claims the network was “on the brink of collapse”.
Trade spokesman Vincent Cable said two thirds of a #270 million fund aimed at saving branches had been switched to provide closure compensation.
And he said the title of the Government’s urban renewal strategy was “desperately misleading” _ with a third of branches in towns set to close.
Koizumi Postpones Post Privatization Report
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi told the head of his private advisory panel on postal privatization Tuesday he would not set a specific date for the panel to finalize a report on the issue, which initially had been scheduled to be submitted at the end of June, government officials said. The remarks of the prime minister, who is a strong advocate of the privatization of the three post office services of mail delivery, savings and insurance, effectively instructed the panel to postpone the finalization of its report.
