Poczta Polska may sue supreme board of inspection

Poczta Polska (PP), the national postal service, has filed a complaint with the Sejm speaker concerning the contents of the Supreme Board of Inspection (NIK) report on PP’s capital group activities. PP Deputy Director General Mieczyslaw Chabowski says that in many instances the NIK formed its allegations based on false information. One of the most important allegations against the PP was that it participated in the companies belonging to the capital group in a way that undermines cost rationalisation and economic effectiveness. It was supposed to result in losses of ZL55.7m during the period under inspection. PP says that the ZL53m spent during the period in question was spent on setting up an insurance company, and increasing Bank Pocztowy’s capital. Furthermore, despite ZL1.4m losses in 2002, the group recorded ZL8.8m profits in 2003 and ZL39.8m in 2004. PP’s lawyers are evaluating the evidence.

Couriers Keep Ringing the Doorbell Until Someone Answers

Polish Post (Poczta Polska) will soon have to face new competitors. It’s possible our letters will be delivered by yellow-clad Deutsche Post mailmen or La Poste employees is navy blue. Today, we have no choice. If we want to send a letter or a postcard, we have to do so through Polish Post. Until the end of 2008, it has a guaranteed monopoly on light weight parcels (up to 50 grams). Before we send the parcel, it is worth taking a look at the calendar. A priority letter (more expensive than the regular type) will be delivered the day after it is sent, if we put it in the mailbox in morning hours.

Polish Post On Verge of Protests?

Nearly 70 members of the trade unions of the Poczta Polska (PP) Polish state-owned postal service staged a 24 hour sit-down protest at PP’s headquarters in Warsaw. They are protesting against plans to restructure the service without the prior signing of a benefits package for employees. The future of PP was discussed yesterday by the unions, PP’s management, Sejm MPs and representatives from the Infrastructure Ministry. “The decision to stay in the building was made by a joint union committee (WRZ),” said WRZ’s spokesman Jerzy Lach. WRZ will also call on PP’s employees to take a leave of absence on 29 April to picket in front of PP offices across the country. Meanwhile, PP’s spokesman said the negotiations concerning the benefits package will be resumed on Wednesday. The unions fear the planned restructuring will result in mass layoffs, and are complaining that the management did not hold a dialogue with the staff.

Protests at Poczta Polska imminent

Employees of Poczta Polska (PP) national postal services provider have backed in a referendum the possibility of holding protests including strikes, said the company’s labour union representatives yesterday. The referendum was organised after PP’s director general announced an organisational shake up in the company. According to the unions, the plan was not discussed with employees and was revealed before a social package for employees was signed. “The referendum was called because our demands were ignored by both the director general and the minister of infrastructure, who want to comercialise and then privatise the company,” reads the official statement of the WRZ, a confederation of ten labour unions operating within the company. It is not known yet when the protest action is to be held. The WRZ claims that PP’s management failed to inform employees about crucial changes taking place in the company.
