Swift provides postal counter automation for Dutch Antilles

Nieuwe Post Nederlandse Antillen (NPNA), the postal operator in the former Dutch Antilles, is upgrading its post offices with counter automation software from Swift Postal. The Swift Retail system automates the whole national postal counter network, and will be used across nine post office branches within the Caribbean island group, linking with head office.

The software integrates the point of sale at the counter with stock control, and connects through to head office, allowing new revenue streams to be provided in post offices like bill payment.

The system caters for use in remote locations, and can operate in online or offline modes.

Swift Postal, part of Ascent Software Ltd, is based in Malta, and has been providing its Swift Retail system to MaltaPost since 2010. The system is also already being used by Guernsey Post in the Channel Islands and in the Caribbean by the British Virgin Islands Post Office.

The company sees its system as particularly suitable for postal operators that may have limited resources but want a high quality service.

The Maltese company’s managing director Joseph Sultana said the Swift Retail system was a particularly cost-effective solution for small to medium postal organisations.

Sultana said: “The Swift Retail suite of products offers a complete and exhaustive approach to postal counter automation software. It will now become the focal point of NPNA’s services, whether that’s back-end, front-end or head office.”

Functionality

NPNA general managing director Franklin Sluis, who traveled to Malta to complete a three-day workshop on the application of the software and conclude the deal, said he chose the Swift Retail system for its rich functionality and because it was accessible for the smaller post office.

Sluis told Post&Parcel today that his team is now beginning the process of setting up the new system.

He said: “We just started the project, and it set to be ready within three months. We must have the client acceptance test, we’re all involved in testing it to see how it works, and then we are going to implement it to all our branches.”

Along with its counter automation software, Swift Postal also provides a range of software including self-service kiosk software, philatelic sales systems, ecommerce web portals and ecommerce “send on” services for islands that struggle to purchase items via the Internet.
