Austrian Post acquires City Express d.o.o. in Serbia

By taking over City Express d.o.o. in Belgrade, Austrian Post has entered the Serbian and Montenegrian parcel market and extended its presence in Central and South-Eastern Europe.

City Express, founded in 2002, will distribute over two million domestic shipments in 2007 with a total turnover of about 10 Mio EUR. This is equals 4 Mio door-to-door parcels and roughly for some 50 pct market share. With a headcount of 368 employees and a fleet of 248 vehicles, City Express is operating 14 sites in Serbia as well as a branch in the Republic of Montenegro.

„The takeover of City Express is following our expansion strategy in South-Eastern Europe. This step will unlock significant potentials for us, accessing the growth markets in Serbia and Montenegro”, says Anton Wais, CEO of Austrian Post.

After acquisition of City Express Austrian Post is represented on the market of parcels with subsidiaries in the following Eastern- and South-Eastern European Countries:

Slowakia: Slovak Parcel Service, and In Time (2002)
Croatia: Overseas (2003)
Hungary: Merland Express und Road Parcel (2007)

Austrian Post and trans-o-flex set course for expansion in Europe

Strong position in German niche markets – plans to extend market leadership in the health care and pharmaceutical sectors – further acquisitions envisioned

Austrian Post and its German logistics subsidiary trans-o-flex will continue pursuing an expansion course in Germany and Europe, with the intention of acquiring additional companies. This was announced by Anton Wais, Chairman of the Management Board of Austrian Post, and Klaus J. Heinz, Speaker of the Management Board of trans-o-flex, speaking at a joint press conference in Frankfurt today.

In addition to trans-o-flex, Austrian Post operates on the German postal market through its subsidiaries AUSTRIAN POST International, meiller direct and Scanpoint. These companies specialise in national and international letter mail as well as mailings. Total revenues of the four companies, which have approximately 2,250 employees, is about EUR 600m.

Austrian Post also aims to expand its business activities in the parcels and specialist logistics segments in Eastern Europe, on the basis of its parcel services companies in Croatia (Overseas), Slovakia (SPS and In Time) as well as in Hungary (Merland Express and Road Parcel). At present, Austrian Post directly or indirectly employs more than 4,500 people in these countries, achieving above-average growth rates.

UPS Bulgarian unit investing 1.5 Mln Euro in office and warehouses

In Time, a Bulgarian unit of US courier giant UPS, is investing three million levs (USD1.8 million/1.5 million euro) in its own office building and warehouses to reinforce logistics services, a company official said on Tuesday.
The company is building the facility near the airport in the capital Sofia and hopes to complete it at the beginning of next year, In Time head Zheni Belopitova told reporters. In Time has been operating in rented premises in Sofia since 1990 when it entered the Bulgarian market. The company saw its turnover rising by an average 20% every year in the past 15 years, Belopitova said.
