Civil Service minister against breaking up Poste Italiane

“I’m against the possibility of dividing Poste Italiane S.p.A.,” said the Civil Service Minister, Mario Baccini, speaking at the Slp Cisl convention at Chianciano. “The company’s recovery was done with the contribution of the unions and workers. I think we have to continue dialogue. The Poste belongs to the entire country, and it can become an important segment for reinforcing the competitiveness of our country. Because of this, I’m against a possible division of the company. I don’t believe that the market can solve the problem of taking registered mail to remote Italian towns. The company’s unity must be our guidelines. We have to meet with the management and the Treasury, but the Civil Service Ministry has the duty of expressing its negative take on the case. We’re not being demagogic, saying no, no, no. Privatising doesn’t mean breaking up a accompany. We have to measure the timelines well. But above all a serious industrial plan is needed to be given to the unions. Only after than can we speak of privatisation. I believe that the unions cannot pull out of the discussion and will accept the challenge.” (AGI) –
