Pitney Bowes expands global business with Brazilian Post Contract
Less than seven months after its launch, Pitney Bowes Semco Equipamentos e ServiVos Limitada has won a $1.4 million annual service contract from the Brazilian postal service. Pitney Bowes Semco Ltda. is a joint venture company formed by Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) and Semco Group.
The terms of the contract include the servicing of approximately 1,200 Pitney Bowes GalaxyTM mailing systems employed by the Brazilian postal service. The agreement lasts one year, renewable annually for each of the next four years, and covers equipment deployed in six states including the Federal District, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Parana and Minas Gerais.
Pitney Bowes and São Paulo-based Semco Group, a leader in manufacturing and outsourced services, formed the joint venture this past January to bring a wider range of products and services to Latin America’s largest postal market. The contract win reflects Pitney Bowes’ commitment to achieving greater global penetration by increasing international operations via enhanced coverage of posts and enterprise customers, and driving business development efforts in emerging markets including Brazil, Japan, China and India. In 2004, non-U.S. business grew to represent 25% of Pitney Bowes’ overall revenue.
Charlene Malone, Vice President and General Manager of U.S. Dealers and Latin America Operations for Pitney Bowes, said, “We won this bid based on the powerful combination of Pitney Bowes’ unmatched global postal expertise and Semco Group’s depth of experience in outsourcing and service contracting in the very complex Brazilian market. We look forward to providing outstanding service to this important customer.”
