Paris, France – September 12, 2000. Federal Express Corp. (FedEx Express), the world’s largest express transportation company, and the Parcels and Logistics Holding Company of the La Poste Group, one of the world’s leading postal organisations, announced today an agreement to strengthen their respective services within Europe. The agreement is part of the strategy of the two groups to reinforce their competitive positions in Europe.
The agreement, effective as of 1st January 2001, will give customers of Chronopost International access to the FedEx air network, while FedEx customers in several key markets will benefit from the European ground infrastructure of the Parcels and Logistics Holding Company of La Poste Group.
“The potential benefits of aligning the most extensive global express transportation network with one of Europe’s most efficient and highly respected brands are enormous. FedEx is experiencing strong momentum in our region, with excellent revenue growth rates. This agreement will build on that momentum with potential new sources of volume and revenue,” said Robert W. Elliott, President of FedEx for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
“This agreement will enable us to strengthen and develop our services in Europe and to the rest of the world via access to the FedEx international network, which is recognised throughout the world,” added Bertrand de Mascarel, President of the Parcels and Logistics Holding Company of the La Poste Group.
The agreement replaces the previous contract of Chronopost International, which only covered France. It enables Chronopost International and the other subsidiaries of the Holding Company to offer a comprehensive product range and optimal service quality to customers throughout Europe.
“This agreement with one of the world’s leading companies, based on our complementary activities, strengthens our position and supports our ambitions as one of the major european players.” commented Claude Béglé, Managing Director of the Parcels and Logistics Holding Company of the La Poste Group.
“Our alliance with the La Poste Group is consistent with our global mission to strengthen our position as the leading supply chain solution provider for our customers worldwide. The power of the FedEx network and the extensive distribution capabilities of the La Poste Group form a winning combination,” said David J. Bronczek, President and CEO, FedEx Express.
FedEx will process express shipments for Chronopost International to and from the following countries: France, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Each company will continue to pick up from and deliver to its respective customers.
“This is the latest in a series of strategic developments introduced since the opening of our hub at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle last September, when we launched the FedEx EuroOne network. In that brief time, we have significantly enhanced our service to and from EMEA, benefiting customers throughout the world,” said Elliott.
In the last two weeks, FedEx has launched several new flights, to extend pick-up times and facilitate even faster deliveries: an MD-11 flight five times a week from the FedEx European hub at CDG direct to the FedEx AsiaOneR hub in Subic Bay, the Philippines; further expansion of the FedEx EuroOne network to include extensive coverage of the Nordic region; and three Airbus A310 flights five times a week connecting Europe, the Middle East, the Indian Sub-continent and Asia.
“Chronopost International customers are accustomed to the high quality service we offer domestic shippers and thanks to this agreement they will find the same commitment when they experience FedEx Express transportation service to the rest of the world. In turn, w
