Austrian Post hands over donations raised from Ukraine Stamp

Austrian Post‘s stamp with the imprint “HELP for UKRAINE” has raised a total donation of 47,124 euros split between two aid organisations: NEIGHBOUR IN NEED and UNICEF Austria.

“The terrible war in Ukraine has lasted much longer than we all thought at first. This makes it all the more important that we re-examine the importance of aid measures. The donations collected through the sale of the Ukraine stamp are a small contribution to support people in need, but at the same time a reminder for all of us not to let up with the help,” says Georg Pölzl, CEO, Österreichische Post AG. Andreas Knapp, Secretary General of Caritas Austria and Chairman of the Board of the NEIGHBOUR IN NEED Foundation, thanks all Austrians for their support: “The solidarity of Austrians last year was overwhelming. The help of NEIGHBOR IN NEED arrives and continues. Almost 18 million people in Ukraine are dependent on humanitarian aid, there are crises within the crisis: The destruction of the Kakhovka Dam with its dramatic consequences for people and the environment is further exacerbating the suffering of the people. Let us not abandon the families and the children and let us prove the much-cited perseverance in our willingness to help. Many thanks to Austrian Post for their initiative and the successful sale of the Ukraine stamp. But I would also like to thank all the people in Austria who, through their contribution, make our help in Ukraine possible in the first place.” “The war in Ukraine has meant worries, fears, traumas, destruction and displacement for children and their families for far too long. It is only thanks to generous support that we can continue our work, which is so important for children and their families in Ukraine. In addition to the enormous consequences of the war, there is now also the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in the Kherson region, at least 37 towns and villages have been flooded, with serious consequences for hundreds of thousands of people. In view of the ongoing conflict, help is still urgently needed,” said Christoph Jünger, Managing Director of UNICEF Austria.
