BEUMER Group to supply DPD with sortation system

The international parcel and express service provider DPD has placed an order on the BEUMER Group’s Russian subsidiary to supply and install an ultramodern sortation system for its distribution center in St. Petersburg. With this order, DPD is intending to expand in Russia and provide its customers with better service. This is DPD’s first automated sortation system in St.. Petersburg. To improve the efficiency and reliability of the dispatch processes, the service provider will be installing further systems of this kind in its Russian depots. This will enable goods to be dispatched to customers quickly and without errors – something which is becoming an increasingly decisive factor, particularly in the highly competitive online business. “It is important for us that the system handles the items particularly carefully and gently,” comments Andrey Mayorov, CEO of DPD in Russia. “The BEUMER Group is able to supply a system which exactly fulfills all our requirements.”

The system sorts approximately 3,500 items per hour, the majority of which are packed in polythene bags. It features one induction line, ten chutes, a barcode scanner and a SCADA process control system. Volume measurement is also carried out on the fly. The intralogistics specialists will be installing the BEUMER Logistics Software BeSS (BEUMER Sortation System) on the central computer.

“We are pleased to be able to assist DPD with further growth and their expansion plans for the Russian market,” says Martin Mossinkoff, Director with global responsibility for the BEUMER Group’s Logistics Systems Division. “It is a relationship we hope will flourish.” BEUMER previously supplied and installed a tilt tray sorter for DPD’s Moscow hub in 2009.
