Google Express reportedly closing California hubs

Google Express is planning to close its Californian delivery hubs in San Francisco and Mountain View, according to reports. An article published by the high-tech news website re/code yesterday (19 August) claimed that Google Express notified its retail vendors on 30 June that it was closing the San Francisco hub and sources have said that the Mountain View hub will close “in the coming months”.

The Google Express service, which offers same-day deliveries in a number of US major cities, was launched in March 2013.

As previously reported, warehouse and shipping workers based at Google Express facilities in California last month filed for organized representation with the Teamsters Union. The workers do not work for Google directly, but are contracted through Adecco.
