Postal Department may not be privatised

Under the present disinvestment policy of the government there is no possibility of privatisation of postal department. The serv- ices of this department come under social responsibilities and not under commercial services. Private sector is attracted more where the work involved is of commercial nature.

The aforesaid thought was expressed by Postal Services Board, member, Mr TR Sharma. He had come on tour to sub post office, Sanchi of Vidisha postal division. He said in this present day changing environment, the department is doing public service with all modern equipments and resources. While accepting the fact that the department is running in losses, he said still it is ahead of all public services organisations in providing need based requirements of people.

While speaking about the proposed postal act, he said presently government is collecting opinion of the common man about the various issues and also providing information on internet. All persons are free to give their suggestions on postal act to the government.

Chief Post Master General of MP Circle, Mr Manu Vyas who was present on the occasion said the postal department has started many important services which are being extended all over the state so that maximum number of people could avail the benefits.

As regards increase in number of workers he said it is impossi- ble at the present moment and they have to work with the existing staff but despite all this, attention will have to be paid on the facilities of the people. Post Offices will be opened wherever necessary. During a simple function organised on the occasion, post office superintendent, Vidisha division, Mr KK Chandel presented replica of Sanchi Stoopa to Mr Sharma and Mr Vyas.

While expressing gratitude to the senior officers duo on their visit to Vidisha division, Mr Chandel said that he would always cherish the memories shared by him. He expressed hope that they would also provide necessary guidance to them in future too.
