Emirates Post slashes courier service charges

A series of initiatives have been approved at a meeting of the Board of Directors of Emirates Post.

The new measures include reduction in Mumtaz mail charges from Dh40 to Dh10, as well as a project offering direct marketing services through the company’s database and a plan for a three-storey post-office building in the Al Falah area of Abu Dhabi at a cost of Dh40 million. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, UAE Minister of Communications, at the Emirates Post headquarters in Dubai.

One of the key decisions concerned the licensing system governing dispatch of documents, letters and parcels. Several changes were approved, effective January 2004, to streamline postal operations.

The board also approved the financial results of Empost for the period ending in December 2002, and expressed satisfaction over its performance and increased revenues.

Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, said: “The new system introduces more flexibility for the movement of mail within and outside the UAE. It will open the door to courier companies who will be able to transport mail without any restriction on weight.”

He added: “We have also reviewed the minimum postal fee on inland mail to upgrade our service standards. In addition, it has been decided not to impose weight restrictions on letters going outside the UAE to allow smooth movement of documents.

“The reduction in the charges for Mumtaz mail within the UAE is aimed at increasing sales volume. We are sure this step will encourage all residents to use the Mumtaz service which offers value-added facilities, quick delivery and security,” Daboos added.

The board approved the new direct marketing service developed by Emirates Post as part of its overall strategic plan to offer innovative services.

Al Daboos said: “The Direct Marketing service of Emirates Post allows clients to dispatch mailers either the traditional way, or through electronic channels. It also allows mail fulfilment jobs through our subsidiary, Electronic Document Centre.”
