Interview with Misko Kancko, Canada Post

Interview with Misko Kancko, Canada Post

Ahead of the World Mail & Express Americas (WMX Americas) Conference in Miami, we caught up with Misko Kancko, Director of Global Strategy at Canada Post. Misko will be speaking at WMX Americas 2019 and offers his thoughts on the conference and the future of the industry.

P&P – Tell us a little bit about yourself and your company.

MK – I represent the Global Strategy for Canada Post Corporation in supporting the Cross Border growth and requirements of the Global markets in/out of Canada. Strategic focus on enabling higher quality services based on shipper and consumer demands as e-commerce continues to mature; facets of transit time, clearance and final mile delivery experiences are paramount beyond the traditional “postal” world.

Canada Post Corporation is the National Postal authority for Canada and is the primary choice for Canadians for delivery services.

P&P – What will you be speaking about at WMX Americas this year?

MK – The growing demand for higher quality “delivery” is out pacing the traditional views of “low cost” shipping”. Consumers continue to demand “better or preferred” delivery attributes while Global ecommerce marketplaces strive to set themselves apart in the “delivery” channel. This creates the focal point of “delivery experience” being the driving force for future logistics and delivery.

Canada Post’s strategy is centred around the “delivery experience” and how we enable that on a Global level.

P&P – What do you hope that delegates will take away from your presentation?

MK – The value of Delivery Experience will be the primary focus beyond “free shipping”.

P&P – What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing your business today?

MK – Costs to deliver the “delivery experience”.

P&P – Apart from the presentations and content, what aspect of WMX Americas are you most looking forward to?

MK – The ability to network.

P&P – How has the post and parcel industry changed in the past 5 years?

MK – The fundamental shift that most postal authorities are becoming “Logistics” companies.

P&P – What is the biggest challenge in the post and parcel industry at the moment?

MK – Managing capacity.

P&P – What are the most critical changes that we must make to face the future effectively?

MK – Investing in technologies that will govern worldwide logistics to compete on a global level which matches global customers/consumers demands; if not private sector will own the e-commerce markets.

P&P – What effect has Automation and Robotics made on the post and parcel industry?

MK – Automation/Robotics has given postal authorities an opportunity to manage their traditionally higher labour costs…to be competitive.

P&P – What impact does the failed renegotiation of NAFTA have on logistics across the Americas?

MK – I don’t see it as a “failed” incident but a new reality. The USA is a superpower which can and has influenced the North American markets. Specifically for the “Postal” world governed within Canada Post, it has established— updated the de minimus values for Canada. This is a good aspect for Canadian consumers and for cross border trade.

Canada is poised to be a major gateway for USA given the de minimus increase and the Trade conflicts with China-USA.

Misko will be speaking at the World Mail & Express Americas Conference 2019. WMX Americas is taking place at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay (10 – 12 February 2019). Visit www.wmxamericas.com for more information. Interested in becoming an exhibitor? Find out more here.
