ABX Air gets ready to help Santa
At Shoreview Facility ABX Air, Inc. is gearing up for a busy holiday season and has launched a recruiting campaign to hire up to 3,000 seasonal and part-time package sorters at facilities across the U.S., including as many as 50 positions at its Shoreview, Minn. facility.
ABX Air manages and operates 19 package-sorting hubs across the country for DHL as well as three mail sorting hubs for the US Postal Service. The main hub in Wilmington, Ohio, processes nearly one million shipments each week night. System-wide, the company manages the movement of over six million pounds of freight in a 24-hour period.
Those numbers are considerably higher during the last quarter of each year with the traditional increase in holiday shipments.
“The seasonal hiring push becomes a great way for individuals to secure extra income during the holiday season,” said Valerie Scarfpin, Manager of Recruiting for ABX Air. “We already have applications coming in on our web site, but we expect a very busy holiday season and we have increased our hiring targets to accommodate the heavy package loads we expect over the next several months.”
The part-time and seasonal positions staff the company’s evening shifts, with starting times varying by location. In Shoreview, pay rates for the part-time positions start at USD10.00 per hour (USD9.45 per hour, plus an additional 55 cents per hour premium for working the late evening shift), and the seasonal positions, which end on December 24, pay USD11.00 per hour.
Candidates must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds consistently and without assistance, work outdoors in the weather, and must have the physical stamina to work in a very busy environment that involves bending, stooping, moving heavy carts and equipment, and standing for several hours at a time. Candidates are also subject to federal transportation requirements regarding drug/alcohol testing and background checks.
