Geodis partners Buytrago to expand in Iberian Peninsula
French logistics giant Geodis has signed a three-year partnership with Spanish express company Buytrago to expand its distribution in Spain and Portugal. The company said last week it is now relying on Buytrago for deliveries in the Iberian Peninsula, while Buytrago will make use of Geodis Calberson for deliveries across Europe.
The firm said pooling the two networks would ensure “harmonious” service quality for all customers.
SNCF-owned Geodis said the partnership was part of its goal to generate 30% from its international European business by 2016.
Jean-Louis Demeulenaere, the chief executive at Geodis, said: “The agreement with the Buytrago company demonstrates Geodis’ ambition to strengthen its position in Europe and opens up broad prospects for us.
“It is a real asset for our customers since we share the same values on operational standards and customer satisfaction with Buytrago,” Demeulenaere added.
Buytrago has operated in the Spanish groupage market for nearly 70 years, and now employs 1,900 people, handling about 5.5m shipments through its network of 60 depots and 900 vehicles. The company delivers about 97.2% of its domestic shipments either one-day or two-day.
The company started using Geodis gradually this year, starting with UK deliveries from January, followed by Italy from February and Belgium and France from last month.
Geodis has a network covering 120 countries, with a workforce of 31,000 generating about EUR 6.9bn in annual sales.
