Brunei Postal dept launches super fast mail service

The Postal Services Department yesterday upgraded its fast ‘Speed Mail’ service with super fast mail service it called ‘Mail Gagas’ or ‘Rush Mail’ that delivers mail to any place within the Brunei-Muara area in under three hours.

“The 10-year-old ‘Speed Mail’ that delivers mail within 24 hours is no longer considered as fast at this time and could not meet the need of certain sectors of the community. Hence we now introduce the ‘Mail Gagas’ or Rush Mail service that can deliver items below 35 kg within 3 hours”.”We will refund our customers if we fail to deliver their mail within the 3-hour limit. We will refund them 50 percent of their money if there is a delay of an hour. We will refund 75 percent of their money if the delay is up to 2 hours and full refund if more than 3 hours beyond the set time limit”, pledged the Acting Post Master General, Awang Haji Azahari Muhammad Ali.

“This is a promise”, he said before his minister, Pehin Dato Haji Awang Zakaria, the Minister of Communication and those present at the launching ceremony of the new Rush Mail service.

But he said, initially the new service for the delivery of items below 30 kg would only be available for Brunei-Muara area. The Postal Services Department, he said, is providing the new service in partnership with TNT Sdn. Bhd., a mail delivery company operating in Brunei.

The Minister of Communication meanwhile noted that the launching of the new service was just one of the many initiatives by his ministry to make postal services in the country better and significantly efficient by partnering with private postal services firms in line with the aim of ‘Beijing Postal Strategy’.

“We are going to continue with similar format, such as in the plan to provide Internet service at the Post Office in Bangar, Temburong, and a plan to introduce ‘Hybrid Mail’ at the Mail Processing Centre in Berakas this May,” disclosed Pehin Zakaria when launching the new service.
