Japan may relax proposed mail service rules

Japanese Posts Minister Toranosuke Katayama Friday indicated proposed legislation could be revised to make it easier for private firms to launch mail delivery services.

The revisions would ease conditions for private entities to provide regional mail delivery services.

Katayama told journalists he will take a flexible stance on the conditions, one of which is that mail has to be delivered within three hours.

A delivery service company has called for longer delivery hours to be permitted.
