Pošta Slovenije buys publisher’s logistics network

The Slovenian postal operator Pošta Slovenije has bought the logistics network of the publisher Mladinska knjiga Založba (MKZ) in a deal worth around €13m. In an official statement issued yesterday (30 September), Pošta Slovenije said that the move was an important step in its plan to “become one of the major providers of trade logistics and supply chains in Slovenia and the wider region”.

Pošta Slovenije said that it was looking to build up this side of the business to offset the decline in traditional postal services, adding that the deal with MKZ will give it the warehousing and storage capacity which it previously lacked.

Pošta Slovenije will set up a new subsidiary, PS Logistics, which will take on the 57 staff who previously worked for MKZ’s logistics division.

The postal company plans to use its new logistics capacity to build up its parcels business, which it sees as a key growth area.
