Royal Mail agrees German Post trial
The Royal Mail today agreed a trial scheme to deliver letters collected by German rival Deutsche Post.
It was the first commercial arrangement Royal Mail has made on access to its network by a rival firm.
The German firm was recently awarded a licence to collect business mail under plans to open up to UK market to competitors.
Gillian Wilmot, the Royal Mail’s Managing Director of Mail Markets said the scheme was A “ground-breaking” development.
“It demonstrates Royal Mail’s commitment to opening its network.”
Under the trial, the Royal Mail will be paid up to 21.9p for 27p letters and up to 16.3p for 19p post.
