Australian Post Office goes digital

Looking for a digital signature? For authentication, try your local post office. On Monday, Esign Australia and Australia Post launched a Gatekeeper Accredited Registration Authority Service.

Through its KeyPost service, Australia Post now provides registration authority services on behalf of Esign and under Esign’s full Gatekeeper accreditation.

It’s just like applying for a passport, Australia Post says. To apply for a digital certificate, applicants can download and complete the forms available on eSign’s Web site, at http://gatekeeper.esign.com.au .

Australian Government says Labor has postal service plan

CANBERRA, Sept 27 AAP – The federal government today accused Labor of having a cunning plan to fully privatise postal services if elected to government.

Backbencher Jan McLucas (ALP, Qld) had written a letter to the community on behalf of the Labor caucus seeking feedback on the likely impacts of a fully competitive postal service, the government said.

“We hear a lot about how little the Labor Party seems to be interested in policy and that’s why I was particularly attracted to something that came across my desk the other day,” Communications Minister Richard Alston said.

Telstra [Melbourne, Australia] is preparing to boost the electronic delivery of its bills across its retail customer base in a joint project with Australia Post to be rolled out by the end of the year. The new online bill presentment service is part of a belated move to participate in an aggregated POSTbillpay online service launched by Australia Post last year.

Net value of Australia Post bill payment scheme

Australia Post has joined forces with Internet firm ninemsn to create the country’s largest bill-payment network so far.
The venture will allow ninemsn’s 4.6 million monthly on-line customers to receive electronic bills and schedule bill payment through the ninemsn Web site.
Australia Post’s national manager of financial services,
Terry Stephens, said the agreement with ninemsn would allow the corporation’s on-line billpay service to reach more Australians than ever before.
