[Austrian Post is not a freight forwarder and has no intention of turning into one], Join Kaniak, director of Austrian Post’s logistics and distribution department, explained in an interview with the ITJ in Vienna. The future of postal deliveries (Austria)

The supervisory board of Osterreichische Post AG, the Austrian postal service operator, decides today (07/08/01) upon the reduction of the company’s post office network. According to rumours, the management board will propose the closure of 712 out of a total of 2,300 post offices, with the cutting of around 20 per cent of a current 31,000 jobs by 2004 (i.e. around 6,000 job losses).
