DHL Danzas signs three-year agreement to use Hong Kong on-airport facility as logistics base

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean yesterday became the HK$530 million Tradeport facility’s second partner after the global forwarder agreed to an initial three-year deal to use the on-airport facility as a base for some of its logistics-related operations.

The deal’s value was not disclosed but the company, which in April was merged with Brussels-based DHL Worldwide Express, said it expected to move up to 30 per cent of its business through the facility.

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean acquires all of Cormar

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean on Wednesday said it had acquired the remaining shares of Corporacion Cormar Sociedad Anonima, a Central American transport and logistics specialist, in order to build operations across the region and achieve synergies for the DHL Group. DHL Danzas Air & Ocean will acquire the remaining 65 percent of Cormar shares from the longstanding senior management and outside shareholders that are also customers of Cormar.

DHL Danzas lays off 50 salespeople

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean laid off approximately 50 salespeople, including support personnel, in what a spokeswoman described as “part of our ongoing effort to align our costs with the level of business.” The move reflects “the continuing weakness in the global economy and a trend by our largest customers to become more import-driven,” said Candace Bouchard, the spokeswoman.

DHL Danzas had approximately 280 salespeople in the U.S. before the cutbacks. The move is not related to any consolidation of DHL Danzas and DHL Express, she added.

Newly merged DHL aims to be number one in Mexico

With the global merger of the DHL and Danzas package delivery companies, the goal of the company in Mexico is take the lead in the market, ahead of UPS and Federal Express, says Mr. Mario Sotres, head of DHL Mexico. The company is hoping to grow by 37% in Latin America and Mexico. Sotres denies any plans to acquire any Mexican companies in the short term, as the focus will be on the newly merged companies. The new company will have a new logo, based on that of DHL, but with a change of color.

Lithuania: Danzas and DHL couriers joining forces under DHL brand

The express and logistics companies DHL International Lithuania and Danzas have announced plans to merge into a single company under the DHL brand by the end of this year. Mindaugas Utkevicius, CEO of DHL International Lithuania, said in a news conference on Wednesday that the merger between the two companies owned by Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN), the world’s leading transport and logistics group, was part of the parent company’s strategy.
