Volkswagen group tips DHL for award

German automaker Volkswagen has tipped DHL Exel Supply Chain for its Volkswagen Group Award for outstanding supplier performance in Mexico for 2006, the logistics services provider has announced.

The annual award is given to the Volkswagen supplier that achieves the company’s highest total weighted performance score in the areas of logistics, service, quality, compliance, on-time delivery, cost and communication. This is the second time DHL Exel Supply Chain has earned the award.

In addition to logistics, Volkswagen Group Awards are presented to suppliers for product quality, technological development, environmental initiatives and business entrepreneurship.

DHL Exel Supply Chain operates two Volkswagen facilities in Mexico, including a sequence center and a cross-dock facility near the company’s Puebla manufacturing plant.

Czech Republic : DHL opens new warehouse near Mladá Boleslav

DHL Exel Supply Chain has opened a new warehouse in Neprevázka in the industrial zone near Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic. The new cross-docking center will cater to the company’s Automotive sector with 13,000 m² of space and 130 newly created jobs.

This new site will service 500 suppliers and coordinate transport to Germany, Belgium, France, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia on a daily basis.

The warehouse includes all the latest technology to operate thirteen gates for unloading and three ramps for back unloading. 180 trucks will operate from this site every day and supply customers in a number of European countries while 50 of the vehicles will service the Czech Republic daily.

DHL Exel Supply Chain’s customers include some of the largest vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers such as VW, Škoda, Audi, SEAT, Renault, Dacia and Faurecia.

DHL Exel Supply Chain’s Automotive sector specializes in logistics services to the car industry. DHL’s extensive network includes a collecting service for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

DHL launches next day 'direct to pharmacy' distribution service across Australia

DHL Exel Supply Chain, part of the world’s leading logistics company, has recently launched in Australia DHL Pharmacy Supply, the ‘direct to pharmacy’ pharmaceutical distribution business. Supported by a five-year contract DHL Pharmacy Supply will offer a 24 hour pharmaceutical distribution service to community pharmacies across the nation. Using its comprehensive distribution network, DHL Pharmacy Supply is contracted to deliver Government-subsidized Prescription Benefit Scheme (PBS) medicines from pharmaceutical manufacturers to approximately 5,000 pharmacies throughout metropolitan, regional and rural areas of Australia.

DHL Exel Supply Chain will deliver the ‘direct to pharmacy’ service by leveraging its existing pre-wholesale network capability and its storage and material handling systems in its new 20,000 sq m pharmaceutical distribution facility at Greystanes, Sydney. DHL has invested heavily in developing a national capability at Greystanes in order to deliver a more efficient order fulfillment pre-wholesale operation to the pharmaceutical sector, enabling direct to market business. The project will utilize approximately 7,150 square meters for order picking from seven distribution facilities around the country.
