DHL resumes flights to Baghdad

The global package delivery service DHL said it has resumed flights to Baghdad last week, six days after one of its planes was hit by a missile on its approach to the airport.

“From the advice we received, it is now a safe environment to fly,” DHL spokeswoman Patricia Thomson told The Associated Press. She said flights to Baghdad International Airport resumed last Friday and the cargo company would “soon try to commence with three flights per day.”

DHL plans to boost Bahrain operations

DHL intends to carry out a multi-million dinar investment in the region and expand its hub in Bahrain for new operations to Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to Middle East area director, Philip Couchman, DHL’s air fleet has been doubled from seven to fourteen in one year, and the company’s road fleet has also expanded from seven trailers last year to 22 this year, and will double to 44 next year.

Kuwait to handle postal exchange between Iraq and rest of world

Kuwait and the interim ruling council in Iraq have agreed that Kuwait plays the part of the third party in postal exchange between Iraq and the rest of the world.

Hamid Khaja, undersecretary at the Ministry of Communications, told Kuna that the Universal Postal Union recently circulated a bulletin in which it announced the resumption of postal exchanges between Iraq and the rest of the world via Kuwait after a long halt due to the latest developments.

The union said that Kuwait will handle regular letters from Iraq, but not registered or express mail or parcels. It did not elaborate.

FedEx adds Iraq in global network map

FedEx Express has announced the addition of Iraq to its global network. FedEx Express will offer door-to-door pick up and delivery for shipments in and out of the cities of Baghdad, Basra and Mosul.

Apart from serving Iraq’s business community, the FedEx Express international network will assist in the transportation of humanitarian aid into the country, including working with Water Missions International and International Aid.

“Iraq has the potential to be one of the fastest growing economies and will require integrated end-to-end transportation solutions,” said Mr Hamdi Osman, Regional Vice-President, FedEx Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent and Africa.
