Lithuania Post to be turned into private limited company

The Lithuanian parliament has passed a law to transform the state enterprise Lietuvos Pastas (Lithuanian Post) into a public limited company, 100 percent owned by the state.

The postal operator will be put on the list of enterprises of strategic importance to the national security after its conversion into a public limited company.

Lithuanian Post Services liberalization

The five year development strategy for the state-owned postal service Lietuvos Pastas approved by the government envisages the liberalisation of the postal service sector and restructuring of the state-owned entity into a joint stock company. “The postal service market will be gradually liberalised leading to more intensive competition between the providers of mail services. The most important phases in the implementation of the new strategy will deal with the adoption of a postal law and restructuring of Lietuvos Pastas into a joint stock entity,” the government press service reported in its statement.
