TNT Express and Norway Post sign agreement

As part of Norway Post’s efforts to offer its customers a new and better express delivery product, the company has signed an agreement with TNT Express to provide its customers with worldwide delivery services.

The agreement means that during May, Norway Post will begin selling Global Express services on behalf of TNT. This will improve Norway Post’s offer of express delivery services to its customers, expand area coverage, reduce delivery times and increase flexibility.

Arne Bjørndahl, Senior Vice President of Norway Post commented, “We carried out extensive research before concluding that TNT Express has the best and most reliable global express service for us. The deal is good news for our customers as it gives them increased access to the international express parcels market.”

Results turnaround for Norway

A reversal of fortunes was witnessed by Norway Post in 2003 according to its preliminary results for the year. The group has forged ahead with restructuring plans to turn around a loss of NKr33 million in 2002 to earnings of NKr512 million for 2003.

Norway Post buys Nor-Cargo

Norway Post has signed an agreement to buy Nor-Cargo Holding ASA for NOK 850 million. The transaction strengthens Norway Post’s core business and makes the company a provider of a full range of logistics services. The acquisition is the largest ever made by Norway Post during its 356 years of existence. Norway Post takes over Nor Cargo Holding ASA from Det Stavangerske Dampskibsselskab ASA (DSD) and Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskap ASA (OVDS), with effect from 10 May this year. The acquisition does not include Nor-Cargo Shipping. The agreement is conditional upon due diligence and the approval of the Norwegian Competition Authority. The acquisition strengthens Norway Post’s position in the logistics market, where competition is fierce especially from international players. Norway Post’s acquisition of Nor-Cargo secures a competitive Norwegian alternative.
