Postal Authority unveils new identity, vision

The General Postal Authority (GPA) announced today a new identity,
vision and renewed commitment to serve. The GPA’s new identity begins with a new name – Emirates Post –
which officials say will be accompanied by a series of other changes
and a host of new services, technologies and systems. The service also has a new corporate logo which features a flying
falcon – a symbol of the tradition and heritage of the UAE.

Letter boxes are emptier as Internet gains popularity (UAE)

Growing use of the Internet and the falling cost of
telephone calls and faxes were behind a drop in international mail
handled by post offices throughout the UAE last year. Although the volume of mail distributed within the UAE shot up by 33
per cent, over three million fewer letters were sent to people
living in the UAE from overseas.

Emirates SkyCargo Priority

Middle East-based carrier Emirates SkyCargo offers two premium service options under the
Emirates Express label launched in 1999. The first is Emirates Priority Plus which caters for time-sensitive and urgent consignments of up to 100 kilos. Cargo space for shipments using that service can be booked as late as six hours prior to flight departure. The service also offers late acceptance and the carrier’s highest loading priority. The carriers second express service is Emirates Priority.

GPA report shows slight decline in overseas mail

The General Postal Authority (GPA) has reported a slight decline
last year in the volume of ordinary and registered letters sent
overseas as well as in the incoming mail, while ordinary mail for
distribution within the UAE recorded a 33 per cent growth. According
to the GPA’s Annual Statistical Report for the year 2000, 31,900,063
ordinary letters were sent overseas as against 31,948,475 in 1999.
The incoming ordinary mail came down to 66,010,672 last year from
69,538,729 handled in the previous year.
