Amazon to open reverse logistics centre in Slovakia

Amazon is continuing to ramp up its European operations, with the planned launch of its first reverse logistics centre in Slovakia. The new 60,000 square metre Slovakian reverse logistics centre is located near Sered and is scheduled to open in the third quarter (Q3) of 2017.

Amazon said that the announcement of the Sered facility follows on from the establishment of a corporate office in Bratislava.

The online retail company has also announced plans to open a multilingual service centre in Barcelona this summer which will support businesses in France, Italy and Spain.

“Every day, we are seeing how businesses in Southern Europe are rapidly embracing the opportunities of e-commerce to expand internationally,” said François Saugier, Vice President Amazon Marketplace Europe. “We want to be the best partner for European businesses of all sizes and the new service centre in Barcelona will provide them with first rate training and support to succeed in the new digital economy.”

Amazon added that the new Barcelona service centre builds on the investment it has already made in its Spanish business.

According to Amazon: “Since the launch of Amazon.es in 2011, Amazon has created over 1,000 permanent jobs in the country, both in its corporate offices and across its growing fulfillment network, which now includes two Fulfillment Centers in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) and Castellbisbal (Barcelona) as well as two additional urban logistics facilities dedicated to Prime Now, Amazon’s ultra-fast delivery service. The company is also building a new 60,000 sqm new facility in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona), which will create an additional 1,500 jobs by 2019.

“Since the end of 2015 Amazon also operates a Tech Hub in Madrid, a software developer center where currently over 100 engineers work on designing new features and functionalities for the 5 Amazon European websites as well as supporting Amazon Business, the B2B marketplace of Amazon.”
