Austria Post expects “parcel volumes to increase by a low single-digit percentage in 2023”

In 2022 Austrian Post once again transported consistently high parcel volumes.

After the year 2021 caused an extreme e-commerce boom due to several lockdowns, 2022 was characterized by economic distortions such as inflation and inflation, triggered by the Ukraine war. After a 5% decline in parcel volumes in the first half of the year, the second half of the year was clearly positive again with growth of around 2%. With a total of 182 million parcels transported, Swiss Post thus reached the level of the good previous year. For 2023, Austria Post expects the trend that emerged in the second half of the year to continue and expects parcel volumes to increase by a low single-digit percentage. “Last year, our investment programme came into full effect. We not only processed these parcel volumes with the highest quality and kept our transit time promises, but also relieved the burden on our employees through additional capacities,” explains Peter Umundum, Director of the Management Board responsible for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG. On an average day in 2022, Swiss Post transported over 600,000 parcels throughout Austria, and in December this number rose to over one million parcels on several days. The daily high was reached with 1.3 million parcels transported.
