DHL chosen as exclusive express delivery provider for International Cruise & Excursions, Inc.

DHL, the world’s leading express delivery and logistics company, today announced a new agreement with International Cruise & Excursions, Inc. (ICE), a global leader in the travel and leisure industry. ICE is one of the world’s leading cruise providers, and through the new agreement will be using DHL for all domestic and international express shipping needs.

ICE will use DHL’s next day, second day, and international express services for the transportation of time sensitive contracts, business documents, and cruise tickets to customers, as well as bulk marketing materials for its affiliated resorts. With up to 1,000 cruise tickets processed daily at its headquarters in Phoenix, AZ, ICE sought an express delivery and logistics partner that could reduce duplication and simplify shipping processes.

“DHL provided a technology solution, including training and support, that enabled us to fully integrate our customer relationship management (CRM) system with the DHL shipping system, doubling the productivity of our ticketing processors,” said Roxanne Shamblin, Director of Distribution Operations for ICE. “DHL’s attention to our operation and the customization provided to meet our specific needs has made DHL a very valued partner,” continued Shamblin.

DHL supports ICE with the DHL EasyShip(R) Enterprise platform, a shipping system that manages multiple shipping stations with a single server, enabling ICE employees to process twice the number of tickets daily than were processed previously. DHL’s eCommerce consultants worked with ICE to code the programming language (XML – Extensible Markup Language) to connect the ICE Web-based application directly with DHL’s EasyShip. The solution enables ticket processors to use the ICE CRM application to process shipments and print shipping labels easily from any shipping station.

DHL also provides ICE with customized weekly service reports to provide greater visibility into DHL’s on-time performance. “The majority of our shipments have been handled as three-day delivery, but DHL’s comprehensive domestic service portfolio has allowed us to upgrade our service to 2-day delivery which has led to notable improvements to customer service,” noted Shamblin.

With many of ICE’s international customers based in Canada and Mexico, the company is able to leverage DHL’s significant network presence and competitive service offerings throughout North America. For ICE, DHL provides next day DHL International Document Service delivery and a global IT infrastructure that allows shipment visibility and tracking from pickup to delivery anywhere in the world. According to an independent third-party study, DHL ranks first in speed for international shipments outbound from the United States, including shipments to Canada and Mexico.

“Providing a solid technology platform for customers to transact with us is only part of the equation,” said Tom Wolford, vice president of area sales for DHL. “A comprehensive understanding of a customer’s business and needs, as demonstrated by our consultative approach with ICE, often leads us to uncover areas that significantly improve a customers’ business processes.”
