People in Retail Awards 2007 – The Winners

Over 600 retailers gathered on Wednesday night to celebrate the 2007 People in Retail Awards, held in association with LaSer UK.

After a glittering champagne reception, comedian Dominic Holland entertained guests with his wry take on the retail industry. Following a sumptuous meal and a lively awards ceremony the crowd danced the night away until the small hours.

Team Player of the Year – Heather McDonald- Lloydspharmacy

Heather contributes to the effectiveness, reliability and quality of working life to the people around her. Heather was described by her colleagues as an absolute asset to her store and region.

Environmentally Friendly Retailer of the Year – ASDA

Asda demonstrated that its commitment to the environment is clearly driven by its employees at all levels across the business. ASDA's employees clearly believe passionately in their company's green credentials. ASDA's entry impressed the judges with its community and colleague based initiatives, including its 'Get Involved' project and Green Diary for colleagues.

Support Team of the Year – COMET

Comet's supply chain team prove that great things can be achieved by great teams, that improvement in stock, service and cost KPI's all contribute to significant business benefits.

Store Manager of the Year North – Diane Brassington ELC

Diane's is the smallest store in the ELC empire but she certainly makes the most of it by delivering sales growth , accurately managing stock control and encouraging and developing her staff.

Store Manager of the Year South – Adrian Page – Homebase.

Adrian implemented a scheme that has transformed a store which was previously underperforming with high staff turnover and low morale to a store with higher sales and vastly improved morale. His scheme may be rolled out across the business.

Store of the Year – Passion for Perfume – Dundee

The Store of the year is clearly an accolade that retailers want to win, judging by the high number and high standard of entries. All five finalists were mystery shopped and all scored 100%. Kirsten Starck and her team are loved by their customers and have even been praised by the shopping centre they trade in.

Employee of the Year – Claire Barron – Vodafone

Claire has everything needed to be successful in retail. Passion, dedication, great leadership skills and a super personality. Highly rated by her company and adored by her colleagues.

Online Customer service team of the year – Figleaves

Figleaves make it very easy for customers to get in touch, constantly evaluates its customer service even to the degree of measuring actual delivery dates against the promised delivery date. In the judges view Figleaves leads the way.

Customer Initiative of the Year. – Lloydspharmacy

Clever, clever, clever. These were the words the judges used to describe Lloydsphamacy's entry. Lloydspharmacy's blood pressure monitor proved to be a great initiative which increased sales and brand awareness and made a significant difference to their customers.

Training and Career Development award. – Homebase.

Homebase have implemented a training initiative which has benefited both staff and the business alike.This training scheme makes Homebase a great place for its staff to work and develop a genuine career path.

Frontline customer service team – Coast

Coast's store team in Bath demonstrated that they really are passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic about delivering a first class customer service.

Employer of The Year – Vodafone

Vodafone clearly has an effective programme of support for employees, focused on delivering the ultimate retail experience for customers.
