Deutsche Post adjusts products and prices
Simplified parcel dispatch through reduction to 3 weight steps /
Price adjustments for small packets, parcels and express shipments
From 1 March 2003, Deutsche Post will simplify the dispatch of counter parcels and reduce weight steps from 4 to 3. Thus, in the future the weight steps will be up to 5 kg, over 5 kg to 10 kg, as well as over 10 kg to 20 kg.
This also generates new pricing structures for all domestic and international parcel and express shipments, including, after close to two years of stable pricing, an increase in the charge for a small packet sent within Germany from EUR 3.68 to EUR 4.10. This has proved necessary due to increased personnel costs as well as general cost increases, which have also resulted in price increases at competing parcel services.
An exact comparison of the old and new prices is not possible due to the new weight structure. The overall level of prices is increasing for parcel and express shipments. However, to a certain extent there are also more economical dispatch options: the price for a 4 kg parcel, for example, will increase by 80 cents, whereas the charge for a 5 kg parcel sent within Germany will decrease by 10 cents.
The basic level of franking by means of Freeway parcel stamps will also increase from 4 kg to 5 kg. The supplementary stamps will also be adapted to the new weight structure. The old stamps will, however, remain valid and may be combined with the new stamps.
