XPO launching interactive management tool for home delivery of heavy goods
XPO Logistics has revealed that it is planning a November launch for its new interactive, last mile technology which is designed to help consumers “manage retail home deliveries with advanced, online tools”. In a statement issued today, XPO said that the technology is being developed for the “unique requirements of heavy goods purchased through e-commerce and bricks-and-mortar stores”.
XPO explained the rationale: “Unlike package shipments, most heavy goods require that someone be available to take delivery inside the home.” With the new XPO tool, consumers will be able to “manage orders in real time, reschedule delivery times electronically, integrate their calendars and opt to receive weather and traffic alerts”. The new XPO technology also “provides the flexibility to set preferences such as notifications by email, text message or voice”.
Troy Cooper, chief operating officer of XPO Logistics, said: “We have repeatedly been ahead of the curve with last mile technology that drives up consumer satisfaction in retail and e-commerce. The launch of our new, interactive delivery management tools will build brand loyalty for our customers and provide a next-generation platform for further omnichannel development. Once our North American roll-out is complete, we plan to adapt this technology to our growing last mile business in Europe.”
