CityMail (Sweden) Q1 Financials

The turnover amounted to MSEK 54.7 (36.0), an increase by 52 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2001. The increase in turnover compared to the previous quarter was 23 per cent. For the first quarter, profits amounted to MSEK 19.7 (4.5). Operating profits amounted to MSEK 1.2 (0.6), twice the amount for the first quarter of 2001. On 22 March, CityMail Group sold its holdings in the Swedish distribution operation, CityMail Sweden AB, to Norska Posten. In the first phase of the transaction, the sale generated a capital gain of approximately MSEK 18.4. CityMail Group AB’s Board of Directors has decided to propose to the Shareholders’ Meeting that the company’s name be changed to OptiMail AB

US Postal Service, Carriers Reach Deal

The Postal Service has reached a tentative five-year contract agreement with one of its largest unions, the National Association of Letter Carriers.
The last few contracts between the post office and letter carriers were settled by arbitration when the two sides could not reach agreement.
The new contract will be retroactive to last November, when the previous contract expired.

La Poste announces first tranche of property disposals

La Poste, the French post office, has launched a call for tenders for 15 buildings with an estimated total value of 100m euros. After selecting candidates at the end of May, La Poste hopes to choose an acquirer in July and conclude the sale by the end of the year.

Too early to confirm if Australia ops to break even in Q4

TPG NV interim chief financial officer Keith Nichols said in a conference call for analysts that he could not confirm the earlier expectation that the Australian operations at Express will return to profit in the fourth quarter.
CEO Peter Bakker said that “cost cutting and restructuring in Australia is well underway and we are seeing encouraging signs of recovery. We hope to break even in the the fourth quarter, but right now it’s too early to tell.”
At the presentation of the full-year results in February, Bakker said that the Australian operations at Express would return to profit by the fourth quarter.

Deutsche Post letter delivery revenues fall 10-12 pct in first quarter

Deutsche Post sustained a first-quarter revenue fall of 10-12 percent in its core letter delivery division owing to weaker postage stamp sales, the semi-privatised postal authority’s finance director said in comments released on Wednesday.

“The magnitude of the decline in revenues in this division is 10-12 percent,” Deutsche Post finance chief Edgar Ernst told the investors weekly Focus Money in an article scheduled to hit the newsstands on Thursday, but released in advance.
