DHL sees strong growth in China despite increased competition

Deutsche Post AG’s DHL unit still expects to grow sharply in China despite increased competition from rivals such as United Parcel Service, chief executive Klaus Zumwinkel told WirtschaftsWoche. In an interview to appear in Thursday’s annual China edition, Zumwinkel said 300 Chinese cities are now part of DHL’s delivery network. ‘None of our competitors can offer such a broad range of products and services across this wide geographic area,’ Zumwinkel said in the interview. ‘DHL is the market leader in China by a wide margin. It will not be easy to catch us.’

DHL Danzas Lemuir further enhances network infrastructure with new corporate office in Mumbai, India

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean announced today the opening of its new DHL Danzas Lemuir headquarters in Mumbai, India. The new enlarged headquarters is a testament to the strategic importance that DHL places on India, touted as the next growth engine of the world. DHL Danzas Lemuir employs over 300 staff and has 17 offices and warehouse facilities in major cities in India, with three more offices scheduled to open in 2006. DHL has been building its logistics presence and strengthening its leadership position in India for almost 40 years, when the company commenced working with Lemuir. Over the last three years, it has invested USD250 million in the country, including setting up DHL Danzas Lemuir, a joint venture company with the Lemuir Group since 2003. “India has experienced phenomenal growth rates in recent years and the prospects for the next few years look just as magnificent” said Dr Klaus Zumwinkel, Chairman, DPWN at the opening of the new logistics headquarters.

Japan Post eyeing tie-ups for international distribution of goods

Japan Post is nearing the final stage of negotiations on comprehensive tie-ups with several major distribution companies such as TNT Post Group of the Netherlands and Japan’s major delivery company Nippon Express Co., a news report said Wednesday. The company wants the tie-ups, expected to be concluded by the end of the year, so it can set up joint firms to distribute goods for companies and gain a foothold in Asia, the largest daily Yomiuri Shimbun said.
Under the current law, Japan Post can only transfer international mail it receives in Japan to a postal service operator in another country. But the company wants to expand its services to better respond to the demands from domestic companies, such as speedy delivery, the paper said.

DHL-Sinotrans’ USD200mn expansion plan in China goes smoothly

The USD 200 million expansion plan of DHL-Sinotrans, a local joint venture of express and logistics company DHL, makes great headway, according to the news released by the company. DHL-Sinotrans has enhanced the facilities and capacities of its service centers in Qingdao, Shanghai, Suzhou, Hefei and Xiamen in the first half of this year. Prior to that, the company had built and upgraded its service facilities in 9 cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
