FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company, has announced the appointment of Brian Britnor as Regional Manager Sales for Global Service Participants (GSP) & Airline Sales, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.

Foreign express giants speed up expansion in China

International express magnates such as UPS, TNT, DHL and FedEx are speeding up to further explore the Chinese market as China opens up its domestic express business on December 18 of 2005.

United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) currently runs six cargo flights from the United States to China a week. If winning approval from the US administration, UPS will be in a position to fly six new flights to Shanghai immediately and six new ones to Guangzhou next year. The new flights will allow UPS to connect Shanghai with Japan for the first time with non-stop service, and the 2005 flights will allow UPS to offer non-stop service from the U.S. to Guangzhou for the first time.

DHL-Trans cooperates with SDB to fight against rivals in China

Shenzhen Development Bank Co., Ltd., a join stock commercial bank, had approved the application for tens of million RMB loan from a logistics company located in Guangzhou City, in a bid to enlarge the shipping market share of domestic private logistics companies.

Sources said that DHL-Trans, a joint venture between DHL and SinoTrans, had decided to make an additional investment of USD 20 million in Chinese logistics market, mainly in Pearl River Delta, Guangzhou City and Hong Kong.

TPG to invest 200 mln eur in China over 3 yrs to integrate business

TNT Post Group (TPG), the largest private post group in the Netherlands, will invest 200 mln eur in China over three years to integrate its business in the country, the Economic Observer reported, without naming its sources. According to the newspaper, the Dutch company will integrate its postal, express and logistics businesses in China into TNT One, and announce part of its investment plans in the country on September 10. The investment plans are part of the company’s expansion strategy in China before international express delivery companies are allowed to wholly operate businesses in China in November 2005, the paper said. It quoted a source familiar with the investment plans as saying TPG plans to set up a joint venture in China, possibly with China Post, but the source declined to release detailed cooperation plans.

Japan Post to Beef Up Ties with Chinese Post Agency

Japan Post said Tuesday it has agreed to step up cooperation with China’s State Postal Bureau to speed up express mail deliveries between the two countries.
With the move, Japan Post aims to overtake U.S. giant FedEx Corp. and Deutsche Post AG’s DHL International Ltd., both major players in China. To strengthen international express delivery services, the two sides will discuss raising the weight limit of parcels, currently set at 30 kilograms. They will also exchange ideas on how to speed up customs-clearing processes and whether to expand the scope of their delivery time guarantees.
