Swiss Post acquires majority in German GHP

Swiss Post has bought a majority in German direct marketing and customer management company GHP Holding GmbH, Swiss Post said on July 25, 2006.

Swiss Post has acquired two-thirds in GHP, but has the option to fully take over the German company by the end of 2008.

The purchase price is in the two-digit million euro range.

According to analysts’ estimates, the deal price corresponds to between 11 pct and 15 pct of GHP turnover, or between 30 mln euro (USD37.7 mln) and 40 mln euro (USD50.3 mln). Swiss Post did not comment that.

Road-user charging schemes have been introduced in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Britain is planning to launch its Lorry Road User Charging (LRUC) system in 2008. The various schemes differ in their objectives, coverage, technology, procedures and toll levels. This paper compares currently operating systems and that planned for the UK. It concludes that the British system will be the most complex and yet, unlike the others, result in a net loss of tax revenue. The paper also assesses the possible effects of lorry road-user charging on a range of logistical variables, including system design, freight modal choice, truck utilisation, vehicle routing and the scheduling of deliveries. It shows how its logistical effects will depend on the nature of the tolling scheme and level of charges.

Swiss Post International Buys MobileImaging

Swiss Post International (SPI), the foreign operations unit of Swiss post office services provider Die Post, has acquired online postcard service company MobileImaging GmbH, Die Post said on July 12, 2006.

Through the deal, SPI aims at expanding the range of its online postcard service offers.

Swiss MailSource Expands in France, Buys EPS Internal Postal Business

Swiss mailroom management solutions provider MailSource, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, founded internal postal services company MailSource France SAS on July 1, 2006, as part of its expansion in France.

The new company has acquired the customers and staff of Paris-based Euro Postal Services SARL (EPS) with immediate effect for a six-digit sum in euro, Swiss Post said in a press release on July 5, 2006.

MailSource France SAS is expected to generate an annual turnover of around 600,000 euro ($766,000) with the prospect of significantly increasing revenue, profit and number of employees over the next few years.
