Post Denmark records 2006 before tax profit of DKK 1,187 million
In 2006, Post Danmark recorded a profit before tax of DKK 1,187 million. This is an improvement of DKK 154 million compared with 2005. The profit after tax was DKK 892 million against DKK 738 million the year before.
– This is the best result ever achieved by Post Danmark. It is in itself satisfactory that we succeeded in achieving an even better result than in the record year of 2004. A major reason for the improvement is our involvement in the Belgian De Post – La Poste. Dur-ing these years, the company is going through a modernisation which now pays off, and this is advantageous to us as an investor, says Helge Israelsen, CEO.
In 2006, Post Danmark’s income totalled DKK 11,718 million against DKK 11,462 mil-lion in 2005. The volume of letters continued to go down in 2006, while revenue from letters was at the prior-year level thanks to the price increases at the beginning of the year. Revenue rose for parcels, magazine mail, newspapers, magazines and periodicals as well as unaddressed mail.
This development shows that Post Danmark’s opportunities for growth are primarily found in other areas than within conventional distribution of letters. As part of its continued development, the company most recently acquired 51 per cent of the shares in Transportgruppen A/S. The deal was made at the beginning of 2007.
– We are ready if new opportunities arise for expanding our activities in a direction which can contribute to generating growth and support our visions, stresses Helge Israelsen.
As a result of the continued decline in the volume of letters, Post Danmark expects profit before tax for the full year of 2007 overall to be somewhat lower than in 2006.
