Home Delivery Network secure Asda, Argos and Homebase deals

Home Delivery Network (HDN) has secured a long term contract to deliver parcels on behalf of Asda in the UK. Owned by Wal-Mart, the largest general merchandising retailer in the world, Asda has recently re-launched its non-food home shopping proposition allowing customers to order either online or in store for delivery either to home or for collection from store.

As part of the contracted service, Asda customers opting for delivery to home will now be able to nominate their delivery date with every purchase online with Saturday delivery included as a standard option.

HDN will also deliver to over 350 stores on a daily basis for Asda’s ‘click and collect’ service, offering 24-hour and 48-hour delivery.

Douglas Gurr, executive director of strategy for Asda said: “Time really matters to our customers, which HDN understands. This new service will provide our customers with the convenience of having products delivered either to store or to home on a day that suits them and their busy lives. We are delighted that HDN can support our deliver to store service as well as offer a Monday to Saturday home delivery service.”

Brian Gaunt, chief executive of HDN commented: “Asda’s continued success is built on giving the customer what they want and our market-leading delivery proposition can help them meet that promise. Wal-Mart is the largest non-food retailer in the world and we are proud to be adding Asda to our wide range of great clients.”

The company has announced a long term renewal of its contract with Home Retail Group (Argos & Homebase).

HDN’s partnership with the group goes back to its GUS days and has continually demonstrated its ability to grow and adapt in a changing market.  Introducing new services is fundamental to continued growth in this competitive arena.

Amongst some of these new services has been the development of SMS based customer pre-advice of estimated time of delivery, together with time windows, giving greater customer visibility and control of the delivery.

Gaunt said: “Renewing our contract demonstrates the strength of our relationship with a leading multi-channel retailer recognised for great value. Key to growing our customer base is our ability to adapt to an ever demanding customer with changing requirements. The renewal of this contract is a positive endorsement of the work we have undertaken over the last 12 months to improve the breadth of our service proposition for our customer base.”

Speaking on behalf of Home Retail Group, Brian McCarthy, home delivery director, commented: “Improved customer services, enabling the customer to see and control their order, is key to a great customer experience.  HDN have demonstrated leadership in enhancing the customer journey whilst recognising the importance of maintaining a competitive cost base.”
